daffy and donald

That crazy shipment of chicks and ducks came in last Thursday.

first official 'date'

Well, Eric had her first one-on-one date last weekend, 'Steve'. He seemed like a nice young man, he is leaving for Coffeyville Community College soon, where he will be a quarterback for them. But, it was only 2 days after that, when Eric got her cell phone stolen out of her friend's car, along with $20. (Just one in a long line of life lessons to be learned,...) Anyway, this was like the worst thing,,,a horrible nightmare scenario was playing out,,.. Steve could have been trying to call her for a second date, and now that the phone has been turned off, it could seem as if she was giving him the cold shoulder!! I told her that he could just call by using our home phone number, like the old days. "Not having a cell phone is like not having a foot !", she says. I replied that people can still live without a foot.

mamba, schmamba

Another fun thing to do at roller coasters these days is pose for the cameras they have set up at various points during the ride. This is big fun. A lot of roller coasters do this, they take photos of you, and display them on monitors as you are walking out. Yeah, you can purchase them, but lately I've been just taking pics of the monitors. After you get bored with the coaster, it becomes hugely entertaining to see what kind of crazy expression or pose you can get. Here's some from our trip.

The Worlds of Fun trip was a smashing success. As a family, we set a new amusement park attendance record of 9 hours. The weather was in the mid-80's which helped a lot. I lost track of how many times I rode the Mamba, but I estimate it to be at least ten times. I don't think I could ever tire of it. The new ride, the Boomerang, was very fun. I am pretty sure it uses some of the same track design as the old Orient Express. Each time I rode the Boomerang, it really disoriented me well, which is the mark of an excellent ride. Anyway, there was talk of us visiting Six Flags over Texas in Dallas sometime this winter, maybe over Christmas break.

Here's a couple pics from the day. The first one was taken near the crest of the Mamba's first big drop. The nice lady in the car in front of us took the pic. The second pic is the ThunderHawk. These people were stuck in that position for 10-15 minutes, until the maintenance man arrived. It actually was a funny scene. All they could do was just sit there, watching everyone looking at them, so naturally I decided to take a picture of them.

Guess what, I stopped by The Yard Store to pick up some more steel angles. Flippoborn, I saw your car there! They had some pretty decent scrap plastic sheets I could probably use for the half pipe.

HEY I'm headed to Worlds of Fun tomorrow to see if I still have the guts to ride the Mamba over and over.

year of the rooster

here ya go, FB, my blog debut! Anyway, we'll see what happens. I'll try my hardest to make sure it doesn't end up being the worst blog the world has ever known.

Coincidentally, 2005 is the Year of The Rooster. Isn't that crazy?? Here's a pic of Marvin (with his master, Eli), before he was brutally murdered by hungry neighborhood cats. Sadly, we did not get any picz of Suzie, Mary, or Madonna before they were consumed as well. But on a happier note, the chicken hatchery emailed me today with the news that our new chicks will be shipped on August 3rd. There will be three hens and a Black Jersey Giant rooster. A simple start to rebuilding the happiness we once knew.
